PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

The summer is over and we are looking forward to some cool autumn weather. It won’t be long before the leaves start to change colors. The fall is a beautiful time of the year.

At our last meeting we initiated the following members into the Lodge: Judge Joseph Spinola, Trent Dattoli and Federico Maruca. We are fortunate to have a collation after every meeting. I would like to thank Srs. Grace Stanco and Rose Pascucci for preparing the food and Sr. Lillian Ceriello for picking up items needed for the collation.

I hope you all remembered in your prayers the people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and all those they left behind. What a terrible tragedy. We should always remember that day.

There are many events coming up in October.

On October 3rd at 2:30 P.M., we will be having a speaker at the Glen Cove Library. Professor Salvatore Primeggia will be speaking about Italian Comedy - Old World to New.

On October 9th at 9 A.M., we will be having our wreath laying ceremony at the Columbus Statue in Mineola. The statue was a joint effort of Loggia Glen Cove #1016 and the John Michael Marino Lodge #1389. Clemente Spampinato of Sea Cliff was commissioned to do the sculpture. Each year we meet on the Saturday of the Columbus Day weekend to remember Columbus, our heritage and our deceased members. We are trying to get a better attendance at the wreath laying and have sent out flyers. I hope all of our members can attend. If you have any questions, you may call Br. Tony Sclafani at 676-5900.

Don’t forget that the Columbus Day Parade will be held on October 10th in Huntington. The bus will leave the Lodge at 9:00 A.M. We will be served a continental breakfast at the parade site. If you have a uniform please wear it. After the parade, we will return back to the Lodge for a light collation.

On October 23rd we will be offering free influenza (flu) vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine shots to those over 60 years of age. Influenza vaccine (flu) shots will be offered to all those 21-59 years of age for a fee of $20. The shots will be given from 9:30 A.M. to 12 noon at the Lodge. The public is welcome to attend.

Please mark your calendars. Our deceased members’ mass will be held on Sunday, November 7th, at 10:15 A.M., at St. Rocco’s Church. More information will be made available.

                IMPORTANT NOTICE
Our next membership meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 6th.
We will be discussing a possible dues increase, due to the fact that our state and national dues are increasing. We will be voting on this issue at the meeting. Please plan to attend.
A light collation will be served after the meeting. Officers are encouraged to wear their uniforms. Please help the Lodge move forward by bringing in a new member.
