PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Fall has finally arrived and winter cannot be far behind. I think most of us have had enough rain. Let’s hope we don’t get as much snow.

At our last meeting we initiated ten new members. The new members are: Carol Barton, Antoinette Burch, Peter Carbone, Gloria and Edward Ferrante, Dr. Nicholas Rizzo and Paola Vitarella. Welcome to our Lodge. The only way you will get to know us is to get involved.

Our wreath laying ceremony was held on the morning of October 8th at the Columbus Statue in Mineola in memory of our deceased members and our heritage. Even though it was a rainy morning, we had a nice turnout for the ceremony. Members of both the John Michael Marino Lodge and Loggia Glen Cove were in attendance. We were also privileged to have our state president Carlo Matteucci and his wife, as well as the family of the late Clemente Spampinato. Thank you to Br.Tony Sclafani, as well as Brs. Michael Santoro and Jim McAleer for taking care of the refreshments.

On October 8th we had our Game Dinner at the Lodge. The dinner was a great success and the food was delicious. A special thank you to Br. Jim McAleer, Chairperson and his committee consisting of: Brs. Carmine Gioino, Mike Ceriello, Rocco Lisena, Tony Ceriello and Srs.Lillian Ceriello, Ann Gioino, Nina Trolio and Janis Ceriello. A special thank you to Br.Tony Sclafani for supplying the music. All those in attendance had a wonderful time. .

On Sunday October 9th, we were supposed to have marched in the Columbus Day Parade in Huntington, but due to the rain the parade was cancelled. It was truly a disappointment.

On October 23rd. we had our Bocce Tournament at the Lodge. Fun was had by all. Thank you to Sr. Nina Trolio, Chairperson of the event.

Don’t forget! Dr.Fred Gardaphe will speak at the Glen Cove Library on October 30th at 2:30 P.M. The title of his lecture will be, “Moustache Pete is Dead: Italian American Oral Culture Preserved in Print”. After the lecture we will go back to the Lodge for coffee and dessert. Please come and celebrate your heritage.

We would like to remind you about the Deceased Members’ Mass on Sunday, November 6th at 10:15 A.M. at St. Rocco’s Church. We will have a light collation at the Lodge after the mass.

The Children’s Christmas Party will be held on December 3rd at 1:00 P.M. The names and ages of your children or grandchildren must be in no later than November 2nd, which is our meeting date.

Don’t forget that our next meeting is on Wednesday, November 2nd at 8 P.M. At our meeting we will have Dr. David Mercaldo, who will give a short talk on his latest book titled FERRY. It heralds the life of an Italian immigrant and seeks to dispel the common myths about our people and culture. After the meeting we will have a light collation.

  Sempre Avanti
  Fraternally,
Angelo Grande
