PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Summer has arrived and so has the heat. I hope you all have a cool place to relax. Let’s hope we get some cool weather in August. I also hope that you get to spend some vacation time with your families.

At our July 6th meeting we had our annual Scholarship Awards Presentation. This year the following scholarships were awarded: The Lorenzo Martone Family Perpetual Scholarship, Matthew Galati, The Dr. & Mrs. Michael Cavuoti Scholarship, Adriana Marino, The Scholarship in Memory of Marianna Crescimanno, Christina Abbondandolo, The Loggia Glen Cove No. 1016 Scholarship in Memory of Lisa Carrera, Courtney McCord, The Loggia Glen Cove #1016 Dante Medal for Excellence in Italian, Sponsored by the Carrera Family, Michelle Costantino, The Loggia Glen Cove #1016 Dante Medal for Excellence in Italian, Sponsored by Kathryn and Angelo Grande, Michael Ragusa, The Loggia Glen Cove #1016 Community Service Award, Sponsored by Paul Annunziato, Alison Razzetti. Also in attendance were the following dignitaries: Charles Lavine, N.Y.S. Assemblyman, John Macari, representing Nassau County Executive, Thomas Suozzi, Carl Marcellino, N.Y.S. Senator, MaryAnn Holzkamp, Glen Cove Mayor, Richard McCord, Glen Cove City Court Judge and Carlo Matteucci, Order Sons of Italy in America State President

On July 10th we had a wonderful trip out to the Macari Vineyards in Mattituck. I would like to thank Br. John Macari for arranging this wonderful trip. A great time was had by all. We arrived at the winery at about eleven o’clock and had the opportunity to taste some fine wines. After the wine tasting we went to see the goat farm next to the vineyard and some of us bought some goat cheese. After our visit to the goat farm we had lunch. During lunch we were entertained by the music of John Macari at the guitar and the wonderful voices of his sister and brother-in-law. We had a sing-along with both Italian and American music and even some French and Spanish songs. On the way home we stopped at a farm stand and were able to purchase some delicious fruit pies.

Our annual picnic will be held on Sunday, August 7th at the YMCA in Glen Cove (see attached flyer). Please RSVP as soon as possible, so that we get a count on how many people will attend.

We will be holding our annual golf outing on Monday, August 15th at the Glen Cove Golf Course. Please plan to set up a foursome or sponsor a tee (see the attached flyer).

We are also proud to announce that Loggia Glen Cove No. 1016 has received notification that we are the recipients of the Centennial Cities Recognition Award. We are one of 100 Lodges out of 700 nationwide to receive this award. Sr. Kathryn and I will be going into Manhattan on August 18th to receive the award on behalf of the Lodge.

The dues for the year 2005 are already over due. Please use the invoice in LaVoce to send in your dues. You are only a member in good standing when you pay your dues. We still have a few members, who have not paid their dues.
